We rehearse most Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at the CHAI HOUSE, 814 Saint Elizabeth Drive, San Jose. Map & Driving Directions
We sing songs of peace, social justice, environmental preservation. Our repertoire includes folk songs, world music, songs in many languages, classical pieces and the occasional show tune (if it's relevant to peace/justice).
We perform throughout the year around the Bay Area. We sing at community events, churches, peace/justice rallies, peace fairs, schools, and museums. We've sung at the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum, the WILPF International Peace Faire, the San Jose Peace Center to name a few places.
We are democratically run. The choir as a whole makes the decisions about director, gigs, dues, etc. We meet about once a month during rehearsal time to discuss important issues and to plan. The Director makes the musical & artistic decisions, but the group also makes suggestions and collaborates.
Monthly dues are collected on a sliding scale from $10-$40 per month. Nobody is turned away for inability to pay.
No audition is required. All that's needed is a love for singing and a desire to spread peace and justice through song.
No. Though it is helpful. The Director tries to help individuals where they are at. Some members read music, others don't.
We ask members to strive to attend weekly rehearsals as they are able and try to make it to performances. The more people we have available for gigs, the better, but we do not make any stringent requirements. We are like a family with one another, and understand that people have other commitments in their lives in addition to Peace Chorale.
